Wood pellets are a clean, renewable, carbon-neutral biomass fuel. Pellets are used for:
- Producing electricity - they may
be direct fired, or co-fired with fossil fuels to produce thermal electricity. Pellets are most commonly co-fired with coal.
- Producing domestic, commercial, and industrial heat - they are used to fuel highly efficient stoves, furnaces, and boilers.
- For animal
bedding and for use in the oil industry - pellets are used as a highly efficient means of absorbing animal waste and oil spillage.
Unlike fossil fuels, wood pellets are carbon neutral. Greenhouse gases released during combustion are recaptured by
photosynthesis during plant regrowth.
Fact: 1 tonne of pellets is equivalent to 500 litres of heating oil
